On 10th November 2022, the tenth amendment to the Decentralization Act of Maldives (Law no. 7/2010) was ratified.
Under the amendment, if the seat of a member of the Women’s Development Committee becomes vacant, the Local Government Authority shall notify the Election Commission within 14 days of the vacancy. A member shall be elected to the vacant seat within 365 days of such notification to the Election Commission.
A member of a Women’s Development Committee shall not be required to be elected to fill the vacancy if the remaining term of the committee is 365 days or less.
