Seventh amendment to Maldives Civil Service Commission Act [Law no. 5/2007]: All you need to know

On 10th May 2022, the seventh amendment to Maldives Civil Service Commission Act (Act No. 5/2007) was ratified.

The amendment provides the following responsibilities of the President of the Commission.

  1. Provide advice and guidance to the Commission for it to carry out its responsibilities in accordance with the Constitution and the law in a result-oriented manner.
  2. Making decisions relating to the operation of the Commission, such as determining the agenda of the meetings and fixing the date and time of the meetings.
  3. Demonstrating leadership and setting an example for the Commission, its members, and staff by abiding by the code of conduct.
  4. Determine the rules for the operation and maintenance of the works in consultation with the Commission, ensure that the administrative affairs are carried out in accordance with the rules, and take the necessary actions.
  5. Presiding over the meetings of the Commission.
  6. Implementation of the decisions of the Commission.

The amendment further stipulates that in case the President of the Commission is unable to carry out the responsibilities due to a disability, any other circumstance, or a vacancy, the Vice-President of the Commission shall temporarily undertake those responsibilities.

The ratification of the seventh amendment to the Civil Service Commission Act will provide greater clarity and guidance on the duties and obligations of the President of the Commission, thus ensuring that these responsibilities are carried out in a result-oriented manner. 

The ratification of this amendment is a significant step forward in ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the Civil Service Commission of Maldives.
