MMCS International Maritime Arbitration Competition
(MIMAC)

MIMAC is more than just a Competition—it’s an opportunity to learn, compete & excel!
The purpose of the MMCS International Maritime Arbitration Competition (MIMAC) is to promote the study of maritime law and arbitration while providing students with practical training in resolving disputes in one of the world’s most vital industries. Recognising the global importance of maritime activities and the Maldives’ heavy reliance on shipping, fishing, and tourism, maritime arbitration was selected as the focus for our inaugural moot competition.
MIMAC is structured to develop advocacy skills through two key phases:
- The drafting of written submissions for both claimant and respondent.
- The oral presentation of arguments before a distinguished panel of arbitration practitioners and academics.
Participants will tackle legal questions arising from real-world maritime disputes in the context of arbitration, applying designated Arbitration Rules and maritime legal frameworks. By engaging in this rigorous intellectual and practical exercise, participants will enhance their legal writing, advocacy, and analytical skills, preparing them for real-world practice.
Why Participate?
Hands on Experience
Participants will gain invaluable hands on experience by engaging in drafting submissions for maritime disputes and presenting oral arguments before seasoned arbitrators and legal professionals while resolving the dispute in the context of international arbitration.
Networking and Collaboration
MIMAC will bring together law students, legal professionals, and maritime experts from around the globe. Build connections with peers and professionals in maritime law and arbitration while exchanging ideas in a collaborative and dynamic environment.
Recognition, Prizes and Career Development
Stand a chance to win a cash prize of $1,000 by winning the competition along with other additional prizes, including internships and certificates to strengthen your CV.
