Maldives National University Team: 21st Willem C. Vis East International Commercial Arbitration Moot Journey
MMCS Vis Moot Program
MMCS launched its Vis Moot Program, an all-encompassing Vis training open to all interested students at The Maldives National University, Faculty of Shari’ah and Law.
The aim is to acquaint students with the intricacies of the Vis Moot, delving into areas such as International Commercial Arbitration, the United Nations Convention on International Sale of Goods (CISG), as well as other key instruments utilized in the Vis Moot. It also focuses on refining written and oral advocacy skills of the students', offering a holistic understanding of the competition and the broader landscape of legal practice.
Central Asia Vis Moot Fall Bootcamp
The bootcamp was organized by the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) in partnership with AIFC Court and International Arbitration Centre, and hosted by Caspian University in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
The Maldives National University attended the bootcamp virtually with over 150 students from over 15 universities in Central Asia, South Asia, Middle East, and North Africa.
The goal of the bootcamp was to help students analyze the moot problem and help prepare them to draft their Claimant's Memorandum.
Team Selection
Mohamed Zayan Shareef, Mariyam Nashath, Shaman Ali and Abdulla Mison Hassan Manik gets selected to represent the Maldives National University at the 21st Willem C. Vis East International Commercial Arbitration Moot.
The team is coached by MMCS, sponsored by the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) and supported by the Faculty of Shari'ah and Law of the Maldives National University.
Discussion with Dr. Leonardo Ohlrogge
The Maldives National University team meets Dr. Leonardo Ohlrogge for a discussion on consolidation under the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Rules- one of the issues in this year’s moot problem.
Dr. Leonardo Ohlrogge is a senior associate at MLL Legal in the Dispute Resolution Team in Zurich and acts as counsel and arbitrator in domestic and international arbitration proceedings. Dr. Ohlrogge has also worked in the arbitration departments of top-tier law firms in Frankfurt, London and Geneva. Consolidation is related to the subject of his thesis and his first practical encounter with arbitration back in 2014.
Discussion with Mr. Kyle Melville
The Maldives National University team meets Mr. Kyle Melville for a discussion on new claims and consolidation under the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Rules- two issues in this year’s moot problem.
Mr. Kyle Melville is a Trainee Lawyer in Construction, Energy & Infrastructure disputes at the Johannesburg office of Pinsent Masons. He completed his LLM in International Commercial Arbitration and Investor State Arbitration from Queen Mary University of London. He was Part of the cross-examination moot team of Queen Mary University of London which reached the Semi-Finals in 2021.

Claimant Memorandum Submission
After months of hard work, The Maldives National University team submits their Memorandum for Claimant.
MENA Vis Moot Winter Bootcamp
The 4-day bootcamp was organized by the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) in partnership with Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC) and American University in the Emirates (AUE).
The Maldives National University attended the bootcamp, which took place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), with over 150 students from over 35 universities from 22 countries in Europe, Central Asia, South Asia, Middle East and North Africa.
The goal of the bootcamp was to help students analyze the moot problem and train them for written and oral advocacy.
Respondent Memorandum Submission
The Maldives National University team submits their Memorandum for the Respondent.

The Maldives National University Team competes at the AIAC APAC Pre-Moot 2024 alongside 140 teams.

The Maldives National University Team, trained by MMCS, gets awarded third place for the best respondent memorandum at the 14th Annual MENA Vis Pre-Moot, which took place in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 5-9 February 2024!

The Maldives National University took part in the Willem C. Vis East International Commercial Arbitration Moot, which took place in Hong Kong, with over 144 teams from around the world.
