Maldives and Seychelles exchange four key agreements to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries
Maldives and Seychelles established diplomatic relations on 01 July 1980.
On 12 June 2023, leaders of the Republic of Maldives and the Republic of Seychelles signed the following four key agreements to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
- Agreement on short-stay visa waiver
- Agreement concerning air services
- Protocol on the Cooperation to Combat Transnational Organized Crime and Other Maritime Security and Safety Threats
- Memorandum of Understanding for Youth Development Cooperation
The main purpose of the agreements are to achieve the following:
- Agreement on short-stay visa waiver: The purpose of this Agreement was to waive prior visa requirements for travel periods of 30 days for nationals of both countries and ease travel restrictions.
- Agreement concerning Air Services: This Agreement was signed to facilitate international air travel and ensure the safe and efficient operation of air services between the two countries.
- Protocol on the Cooperation to Combat Transnational Organized Crime and Other Maritime Security and Safety Threats: This Protocol is to further strengthen cooperation between the parties in search and rescue, combating piracy, and other maritime security threats.
- Memorandum of Understanding for Youth Development Cooperation: This agreement enables resource, knowledge, and experience sharing between the two countries and the development of capacity building and youth exchange programs.
