First amendment to Maldives Foreign Service Act [Law no. 20/2021]
On 10th May 2022, the first amendment to Maldives Foreign Service Act (Law no. 20/2021) was ratified.
The amendment abolished Section 44 (b) of the law, which provided that the wages and allowances of Foreign Service employees would be decided by the National Pay Commission based on proposals from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Finance.
The amendment specifies details of retirement benefits for Foreign Service employees.
The amendment also confers the authority to set wages and allowances of the employees to the Ministry of Finance in accordance with the standards and rules prescribed by the National Pay Commission under the National Pay Policy Act.
Further, three more clauses were added to clause 71 of the Act.
