On July 17 2022, the first amendment to The Maldives Fisheries Act [Law no. 14/2019] was enacted. 

The Maldives Transport Authority Act (Act No. 3/2016) was repealed on December 13, 2021, hence the amendment rewords Section 56 of the law to exclude Maldives Transport Authority from the list of agencies included in the Act.

The section now requires the relevant ministry to develop and implement a monitoring, control, and surveillance system for overseeing and controlling fishing in accordance with the law after consulting with the Maldives National Defense Force, Coastguard, Maldives Police Service, Maldives Customs Service, and other relevant agencies.
